From Army Motors Magazine November 1942 "An improved pioneer tool bracket."
It states the new one is four inches shorter than the old. Wouldn’t that make it 38 1/2 inch.
It also says it has 16 holes for easier mounting.
The picture shows it has a angle piece in the center not straight.

I found a no. 2 shovel in this format above and its pretty cool and has green paint. But it does not fit the wartime pioneer rack shovel blade loops.

Anyone ever seen one of these early early racks?

Either I need a ww2 period no. 2 or modify the rack.

I have 3 of the long racks; two on my WC63; standard shovels fit fine. I have never seen one of those wood handled shovels. I'll take a picture if you want.
The later shorter one with the angled cross bar looks like the post war M37 type.

Here's the 40" rack I have. If you look at the 2 shovel blade retainers, they are different than the manual illustration.

The manual also seems to have a tab that comes through the D handle that is different as well.
