It looks to me like it’s part of the Packard Merlin toolset, like the wrench you forwarded to Len.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
AT 8040 1/2 W .919 on the list
AT 8018 5/16 W .601 on the list
AT 8017 1/4 W .525. on the list
AT 8016 3/16 W .448
AT 8015 5/32 W .387 on the list
AT 8014 1/8 W .338 on the list
Thanks Don. Looks like only AT 8016 isn't on that list, but there's no way it wasn't related, maybe a previous variant. I have a bunch of AT marked tools in one of my Type II cases, I think I'd better sort through then. I've saved that image, but if you have a larger version please e-mail it to me.

Here is a 7/16” Barcalo combo that was made for that set.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
I'm going have to have a major set out of my aircraft tools over the holiday season. I have a bunch of PWA, Ranger AT, and AT marked items that I've had no reason the sort or list so far, like this adjustable, AT 8029, which is also in that kit:
PWA is Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, I believe Ranger AT is Fairchild Aviation - is AT just an Aircraft Tool identifier?

Hey Gordon!
I thought I'd share a picture of this Plomb Toolmobile with you. I brought it home this past weekend. Originally green, but was primered in gray and spray bombed black.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
Nice one, Jason. That looks to be a 9969-1 Master Tool Chest rather than the 9969-4 Toolmobile though. Wartime catalogue shows it in red originally.
Was it OD green or just generic green? never seen anything like that this side of the pond.
regards
Gordon

Hard to tell what color it was. For sure it was green at one time, but I haven't cleaned up those parts yet.
This model shows up in the 17-B catalog (1939 I t think) and is marketed at the 9969 Toolmobile.
The 18-A catalog (Aug. 1940) shows the newer model Toolmobile with the rounded corners.
Here's the page from the 17-B catalog:

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
I wonder how much shipping would be from Cincinnati to the West Coast for a Toolmobile?
I grabbed this rusty box with a few extras off of eBay just because I had never seen one like it. It looks a little different now.

The story continues. It was unseasonably warm yesterday allowing for spraying some wrinkle finish.

It's different. I wonder how religious the army was about having stuff OD green? If they wanted a thousand tool kits that already existed but the bees were red, how much would the colour bother them?

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
Normally I try to paint the boxes their original color and so I did that with this fairly unusual box. I believe it to be prewar accounting for the red paint.
I picked up several Plomb tools at an estate sale yesterday.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
I’ve been looking for one of these 1” cut Plomb cold chisels ever since I put together my Machinists set. I found this well used one on eBay and dressed it up and sharpened it.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
I recently acquired the longer version of the Plomb 1” cut cold chisel. Sharpening and dressing up the striking end has taken off approximately 1” from the original length.

Re: PLOMB progress, questions, & stuff needed
I picked up a partial Plomb 1/4” drive set off of eBay recently and filled it out with tools on hand (except the crossbar, of course).
