Sparkplug wrenches for sale

Post by JAB » Wed Mar 10, 2021 5:02 pm

I bought a box of misc. sparkplug wrenches (most without handles) hoping to find a GPW marked version for my tool kit. Some were NOS or repacks, some were well used, some are unique (in another post), but they're all perfectly serviceable tools. Didn't get what I wanted though, nor did I get a WO marked wrench as a consolation prize. I did however get a bunch of perfectly suited sparkplug wrenches for our tool kits and they're all for sale. Price is based on condition or commonality and doesn't include shipping. I made 5-3/8" long handles with squished ends based on the NOS wrenches that came with handles and they turned out pretty good.

Opened and unopend NOS or re-pack. The open one is a Mossberg but has a different font than the other ones in the lot. The unopened one is probably the same, but we'll never know unless you buy it and open it. $20 for either one.

Here's two 41-W-3335-?0 wrenches that are stamped too lightly, or corroded over the stamp, to read the number and one Mossberg with a shop-stamped number stamped over it. $12 each for the two apparently unused 41-W wrenches and $8 for the used mossberg wrench with the egged out handle hole.

Mossberg wrench, appears unused, but brand stamped twice. $12

41-W-3335-30, a -40, and a -50 suffix. The -30 suffix and -40 look new, the -50 has a wallowed out handle hole. The -30 is $25, the -40 is $20, and the -50 is $12.

representitive of the Mossberg wrenches in the lot. The apparently unused versions are $12 and the used with worn handle holes are $8. There's over a dozen so buy some as gifts and combine shipping!

Price edit; deduct $2.00 from any of the posted prices above. You still gotta pay for shipping though. Buy a bunch, I can get several into a Small Flat Rate box!

I'd like to buy a few. What's the significance of the difference 41-W numbers? I'm inclined towards one marked with a 41-W whatever and a Mossberg or two.

The significance of the 41-W number seems to indicate time periods. We assume that the lower number suffix "30" preceeds the "40" which then precceeds the "50". I don't think we "know" much more, and in fact, I think we're assuming even this. The MB and GPW had their own unique part numbers for these and surviving examples seem to be rare. The 41-W numbers seem to be replacements, possibly/likely post-war, but prior to 1952, as many NOS wrenches come wrapped and dated to that year. I think the Mossberg is just another mass-produced post-war replacement, also from the early '50's. The Mossbergs seem to be quite common compared to the others, but the "40" suffix parts also seem to be common.

Yes, these are all correct for the WWII jeeps, depending on how we define “correct”. I believe that, based on the non-Ford/Willys specific part numbers, that these, with the 41-numbers, were issued as replacements. I don’t know why they made the changes or what the differences are concerning the part number suffix's. I never use these, not enough leverage with that short handle and my arthritis...But, they’re part of the onboard vehicle tool kit and your Jeep isn’t complete without one. It's item W in this picture from the manual.

Here's a somewhat outdated explanation from jeepdraw: https://g503.com/oldsite/tools/wrench_s.htm

I don't have a jeep... didn't know if any of these were appropriate for a Chevy G506.

I'm sorry, but I have no info on that. If the manual is similar to the jeep manual there should be some mention of a tool kit and its contents somewhere in a chapter on vehicle equipment or such.

The NOS wrenches are gone but there’s still a few of the others remaining.

I’m wondering if one of these is what you’re looking for; viewtopic.php?f=48&t=322379
