Bench Vise

Post by Brett Nicholls » Fri Jul 31, 2020 4:58 am

Hi Everyone,
I spotted this bench vise yesterday and wondered if correct for a machinists vice. Some one with better knowledge may be able to verify. The data plate on the side reads:
"Manufactured by Birtman Electric Company. Rock island division rock Island Illinois made in the United States of America."

On the side the casting reads: "Rock Island. No. 572"

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Brett.

Birtman Electric Company acquired Rock Island in January of 1930. So, it's a good bet that your vise could be Wartime.

Britman was moved to the verified supplier list in 2017. See THIS post.

Nice vise.

Edit - there may be a date stamp on the slide of that vise. Clean it up and let us know.

Hi Jason,
Many thanks for the reply, That's a great source of information on the list. I missed that in my search. I will have a look for further stampings. Thanks again.

Regards,
Brett.
