Hotchkiss Rear Axle Spindle Shimming ?

Post by AndyB » Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:19 am

In the process of replacing the wheel bearings on the rear axle, they were both a tight fit to remove and more difficult to refit. On examination it was found that both the wheel and seal areas had been shimmed.

Both sides have been done exactly the same, requiring a shim thickness of 0.008 (0.02mm)

Has anyone else come across this fix ?

Hello Andy,

I think this is a common practice, but it would be best to make this post way up at the top,
in the MB/GPW Technical Knowledge section, as I don't think many will see it way down in the M201 section  .
It is the exact same axle as the MB and GPW, so people would be able to comment on it once they see it.

Best Regards,
Ray

Bonjour Andy,
