M201 Air Filter Conversion, Oil Bath to Pleated Paper

Post by Paul Randazzo » Tue May 24, 2016 6:47 pm

I came across this posting by RI Scout dated March 14, 2011. It was very helpful.
I did a little more research and found a way to retrofit the oil bath air filter with a pleated paper element without modifying any original parts there by being able to return the filter back to it's original condition. I used a Fram CA 9053 air filter and a piece of aluminum from an old street sign. I used a 4 1/2" hole saw to cut the disk of aluminum. I removed the cork gasket inside of the housing because the filter was the perfect diameter to make the seal. The screw was the correct length to hold the aluminum disk to the air filter. I reassembled the filter housing and reinstalled it. The engine starts and runs exactly the same not needing any carburetor adjustment. Nice job Scott for the original design.
