Gear lever knobs???

Post by Carsten » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:57 pm

Hi guys...
Are there only one type of knob on all three gear levers, or are the knob for the transmission lever supposed to be larger, than the relatively small ones on the transfer case shift levers?
What is the diameter on the knobs?

I'm not 100 percent sure that mine are right... :?

3 small round knobs, regardless as to what's shown in the TM's on the transmission.. as for size....about 1-1/4". thereabouts....never really measured one...but you know what I mean..

I just measured mine, and they're only 1" in diameter! Also, i don't think the protruding "rim" going around the middle of the knob, looks like the originals i've seen in pictures... By the way, somebody wrote that some late model jeeps had an aluminum knob on the gear shift lever?! Mine is aluminum, but i'm not sure if it's original or just something that was found in a pile of scrap???
Bad picture, but maybe someone can tell (don't be confused with the knob on the front axle lever, the top has broken off)...

I think it was someone who mentioned the aluminium ones the other day and said they came off a bomber.... maybe a B17 or something like that..which I thought was kinda cool....memory gone again..........
The knobs should have a ridge around the periphery. See Ron's Spares pic..below.

I believe the GPW judging standard lists the diameter of the knobs as 1 inch, but it's been quite a while since I read through it.

I believe the aluminum knobs where a mod of the britisch I recall somebody saying they regrettet it later because when it is very cold the knob is also very cold.

Yep it was me who said that. The knobs came from my WW2 machanic friend and I thought it was cool to put those on my jeep. As a reminder of my friend just down the road. Who has given me so many tools. I have 4 total one is in my curio cabinet for show.

Why is some of us just get so "into" the details :?:
