Can someone please provide a rear seat bracket measurement?

Post by onaway » Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:49 pm

I was "gifted" a MB rear seat that had a 5" plug at some point. I was measuring my re-pop back panel and noticed the spacing between the rear seat bracket bolts is 1/2" shorter than the original. It is a 45 MB so a composite body.

If someone could confirm the 28" is indeed incorrect I would appreciate it. Jeep draw comes in at 28 3/8" so closer to the original.

The photo below has the original rear panel still installed. It was too far gone so I opted to replace it. It looks like the re-enforcement plates are at an angle but I will have to look at my original back to confirm that but I think that is the camera playing tricks.

Check Jeep Draw; I think I got that drawing from them.

Scrumps,

Thanks for measuring this for me. I may have to add some metal to brackets to lengthen them a bit. I wish I had caught it on the build but I'll make it work.

Yep 28.5 seems to be the measurement on mine except for the hotchiss....it is 29.0..

I have one repro that does not have the bolts at all. It is a mid 1980,s repro. I don't know any more than that.
Always something to learn .

I have a spreadsheet of everything I purchased but the rear tub panel doesn't show up. I don't remember where I picked it up, too many years ago... It was pre-JMP so I would guess it came from the far-east. I do remember having to swap the taillight brackets as they were installed 180 degs off.

That's an early Ford vs. ACM thing.

Jeff,

Isn’t that a “horizontal” v “ vertical” thing.

180 deg out would indicate incorrect manufacture to me?

No, all the Ford-built bodies were different in that regard. In fact, I think I have a set of each that were cut from rusted out bodies. If I don't need them I'll make them available here. They're different too, in that you can't just cut them off, turn them 90 degrees, and re-weld them on.

Ah, I just noticed, he said 180 degrees off (not 90, like I was thinking) and was referring to a reproduction body. The Ford style cannot be turned 180 degrees without doing some serious re-bending, but the ACM style, how would you know that they're 180 degrees off? Aren't they symetrical? Now I gotta dig out that set and look! Oh eayh, nevermind, reproductiuon body, doesn't't count.

Jeff,

You are correct they were 90 degs off, not 180.

Jeff,

Yes, I think horizontal (late) are symmetrical.

The OP must mean 90 deg, which means he has a late panel, but needs an early one - if he doesn’t want to play with the brackets.
