Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
As the title says, looking to find out what the correct steering wheel for a May 1944 MB (ACM2) would be. Is it a green Sheller?
I tried looking for a thread or chart that shows all the various part versions by year/body style, but must not be searching correctly. If someone would be able to point me in the right direction (things like the steering wheel, spare carrier, horn, light switch, etc.) that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
Here's a check list to get you started.
To answer your questions, an ACM II, May '44 MB will have:
Green wire spoke steering wheel
2 stud spare tire carrier with tire support
Sparton Horn
Push-pull light switch
Rifle bracket on the windscreen
Type II suppression
Early style collar on the exhaust pipe
Stamped steel clutch and brake pedals
Tire pump bracket on rear seat
External contracting parking brake
GEG-5101 bushing style generator
Regulator with ribs on cover
Tandem wipers
Single piece transmission skid plate
Holes for decontaminator under passenger seat
Springs: 8 leaf in front and 9 leaf in rear
Cast style axle covers
No bolts on the head, all studs with nuts
What it does not have is:
1st Aid kit bracket
Lube chart envelope
Filterette under the dash
Metal hood deflector
Hope this helps,
Peter

Scrumps,
Yes on both. The hood is Ford, these were made by ACM with the Ford tooling.

Peter,
I know - we have an Aug ‘44 MB.
They were the only two things I could think of that weren’t in your comprehensive response to the OP!

Just remember there are exceptions all general rules!
Like does your MB have any unusual features?
Is the body, frame and drivetrain all original?

Re: Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
Mark,
Everything I stated is in the Willys book we did with Lloyd, do you need a copy...HA!
The list I provided are the factory features for an MB based on the serial number/DOD changes in Volume 1.
There are no general rules or exceptions for these features, nor does it matter if it has the original drivetrain, etc.
Whether or not they were modified or are there today is irrelevant, this is what was on the jeep from the factory.
With Love,
Peter

Re: Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
Haha, you know very well the exceptions are noted specifically in Volumes 1 and 2.
There are MB in May and after like mine that have hood deflectors, grease gun brackets cast pedals and a bunch of other differences.
How do we know what he has unless we get his frame and body numbers along with any features?
Love you too dear friend!

Re: Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
Mark,
Good to hear from you.
Your's is a Navy/Marine MZ radio jeep so the exceptions you reference are correct but contract based.
I am clarifying this for the readers that don't have that insight.
My answers were based on Army ORD specs which were the norm. Like you, your jeep is the exception.
Hope to see you soon.
Cheers,
Peter

Re: Correct steering wheel for May 1944 MB
Sadly I have nothing to offer except the frame number of 329051, the body wandered off decades ago. I got an MB frame, transmission, transfer case, drive shafts, GPW axles, leaf springs, steering box, and an F-script pintle, nothing more. I bought an ACM2 body kit from SGI, but given the number of Ford parts and the fact that my engine is likely going to be a February 1945, I think I can probably just pick more or less whatever I want at this point. I have a metal spoke MB wheel and on my CJ clone, so maybe I'll put a Sheller on my MB just for a change. I did my CJ in Ron's 33070, I think I might go with TM9 319 this time around. Thanks for the answers and I'll see where the wheel lands on my MB.Mark Tombleson wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 4:03 pmHaha, you know very well the exceptions are noted specifically in Volumes 1 and 2.
