What is this? On an MB museum display

What is this? On an MB museum display

Can anybody tell me what this is? It's on the driver's side where the windshield meets the dash. I've never seen this before.

It is Hotchkiss M201.
On the M201, there is a large metal contact next to the screen clamp for the wiper motor circuit
