Engine issue

Post by RMarchi » Fri Jun 24, 2022 4:22 pm

I have a 1945 Willys and after thinking I had beaten the Jeep gremlins. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Issue one: the engine dies if I give it just a little pressure on the pedal. If I give it a harder push on the pedal it runs fine.

Issue two: I hear a soft popping sound at idle. It is consistent every few seconds. I’m thinking it’s the timing but that’s just a guess.

Thanks in advance!!!

Rob

tune up and carb rebuild or adjust. good ide to check vacuum for air leaks and compression same time.

The 'dead spot' in the carb. could be worn out metering rod linkage OR the rod itself needs adjustment. If the needle is too low in the recess, it doesn't allow gas flow when you push on the gas pedal thus creating the 'dead spot' resulting in stalling.

Step one: Send the carb to ScoutPilot. There is no step two.
It will run fine after you do that.

Look into your bathroom mirror with the lights off and say "carburetor" three times and he will appear.

I took the carb out and I think found the issue.

The float wasn’t set at 3/8! It was probably twice that!

How do I adjust the metering rod?

Thanks all!
