Voltage Regulator Info (Delco-Remy

Post by McGyver » Wed Jun 22, 2022 8:00 pm

My Jeep came with a Delco Remy voltage regulator. I know it is not correct but I was hoping to use it for the time being, and eventually get a correct auto light at some point in the future.

Looking at the tag however, I believe it is marked for a positive ground system. I never saw the Jeep run, but find it hard to believe this would have been hooked up and not working properly in the past. What's everyone's thoughts about this?

Yes it should work although 25 Amps would not allow you to install electrical or electronic accessories like military radios.
In the future, if you decide to change back to the negative to the ground, it will be very simple. Without forgetting to repolarize the generator.
The regulator and ammeter will have to be rewired, that’s it. Also if the fuel gauge is not original you will have to revert the wiring.

That's a General Motors regulator box might have come off a early gmc cckw ?as the early ones were positive earth.

In other words, I would have to switch the polarity of my jeep to make this work (i.e. ground the positive side of the battery and reverse the connections on my amp and fuel meter)?

Get rid of it and get the correct unit, Only a hundred or buck fifty or so. Does not JMP have a solid state unit?

On the other hand some pos and neg ground vr's are the same parts with a special coating on one side of the contacts depending on weather pos or neg ground. some say pos or neg ground on the casing.
connect everything for neg ground and see if it works.

Now what genny is on there?
