Re: Questions about 1942 GPW
Thank you.
I'm going to restore it back to original. Except for the engine block. I will keep the CJ2A with WW2 parts added to it (starter, generator etc)

Good for you! In that case you'll need to do your research to determine what stays and what goes. For example, you may want to "undo" the fender mounted BOD light and trailer socket, as they probably weren't original, or keep them as they were most likely added during the service life of the jeep. Research on your part, and how you want to depict your vehicle, will make the decision for you. A gas can carrier might also fall into this catagory. Do your research, decide which route to take, and then act. With that vehicle, in Europe, you have evidence of in-service, in-theater, honest modifications that you may want to keep as they are a ligitimate historical "story" of that jeep. Sometimes restoring it to a previous part of the vehicle's likely history is preferred over "original". It's now your jeep, so you get to decide which is best.

Quick question. I can't decide which wiring kit I should buy. The kit from MV spares or Seal Tested.

Re: Questions about 1942 GPW
I used the MV Spares on my Dec. 1944 MB, with no problems at all. I purchased it a couple years back. Every thing hooked up correctly. You will have to know which light switch, rotary or push pull(your 42 should be push pull). Also if you are going to use the BO light, filterette under the dash and trailer socket. There are different harnesses available for each option.

Wiring harness? MV Spares is the only answer. Never heard of that other place mentioned.

Hi all,
Don't forget that Ron Fitzpatrick sells wiring harnesses too: https://www.vintagejeeps.com/c-75-mb-gp ... rical.aspx
And they are US made too!

I second Ron's wiring harnesses. I am no expert by any means and his are very easy to follow with the CAD drawings provided for each component.'42 Peep's Motorpool wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 5:25 pmHi all,

Re: Questions about 1942 GPW
New update today. I had the frame blasted and painted in primer.
I have, I guess, a little bit a twisted frame. When the jeep was all together the rear left sats a bit lower the rear right (lean).
On the photo I have set the frame and stands horizontal but the right rear is about 1 inch higher.
How can I get this horizontal?
I hope you guys can help!

Re: Questions about 1942 GPW
OK, my Mistake! I just assumed that the Wiring Harnesses that Ron sold were MVS ones.
Now that I see they are not, DEFINITELY get them from Ron. I need a 44 MB one and will get one from Ron.
Actually, I just got a new WC63 wiring harness from MVS; total piece of crap. many of the wires are wrong and it is too short. After I paid $115 to send the old one back. I don't know what the problem is because I have used their harnesses in the past and they were great. Anyway, get them from Ron.
As for your frame, if it is twisted, you will need a real frame shop to straighten it.
Or make a jig out of bridge I beams; an option. I would make a jig out of something; WW2 jeep frames are like jello. Got a Dodge frame laying around?

Re: Questions about 1942 GPW
I see things welded on to the frame that don't belong there. Any welding can cause distortion. I would cut off the parts that don't belong and try to "over-twist" it until it sits straight. Some twisting in these isn't unusual but if it's twisted that much it's probably not square either. I've never had one that came to me perfectly straight, or square, or with a complete or proper rear crossmember. Triangulation is the strongest way to support something and the rear pintle brace is the triangulation that squares up a jeep frame. I do all my frame repairs, then loosely clamp the pintle brace to the rear crossmember, and after pulling everything into square with Pony pipe clamps, tighten the clamps holding the pintle brace to the rear crossmember and weld it exactly where the factory did. I imagine a frame shop would have differing methods. I wonder if shrinking, similar to body work, could work. The frame is essentially mild steel, but I've never tried it on a frame, just putting out an idea. Yeah, not unlike Jell-O!
Also, how do you know your floor is flat and level?
Here's a Pony pipe clamp being used to pull in the front bumper. With a longer section of pipe you can use it diagonally across the frame to pull it square. Here's threaded rod being used to square up the script GPW I'm working on now, doing exactly what I explained above, but with threaded rod.

Make sure it is square as above, but your one inch warped is no problem; once you get the springs, axles, etc on it, it will sit level.
