VE Day + 77 Years

Post by HankII » Sun May 08, 2022 8:42 am

Victory in Europe Day is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, 8 May 1945. Russia and many former Soviet countries celebrate on 9 May, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

I took the command car out for a drive today. Everyone that stopped me to talk to me did not know that today was VE day. We are in trouble.

Hi,

Always remember, of course the war wasn't over until VJ day, but for millions VE Day couldn't have come soon enough. Much respect to the men and women who saw that victory through.

If we don't preserve, honor, and remember, who will?

Bingo !!

And in many other areas as well !!

God Bless our WW2 Veterans, Families, and all our Veterans !!

Take pride in America, and our great People,
in spite of all the garbage and cultural pollution that has been dumped on the general population for many years.

We must remember VE Day, and VJ Day, and all the Days of our Republic !!

Because if we don't, who will ?
Nobody !
It wont be long until it starts getting cancelled, and worse, as history gets erased from collective society and memory, and revised into stuff straight out of the manifesto.

We try to preserve and share our great and incredible history as a People.
None others in this world have ever even come close to what America has achieved though perseverance against the odds !!

This hangs in my Jeep barn as a daily reminder !

We took the MB out for a spin on Sunday afternoon.
In France the 8th of May is always a holiday; most communities have a memorial service in the morning.

Little Rhody observed VJ Day until the death of Captain, USMC/Secretary of the Navy/Senator Chafee in 1999. Now Rhode Island celebrates "Governor's Bay Day" instead. The cancellation of the past is well under way.

All war end dates are quickly forgotten as those who lived them depart to meet their Maker.
I think it's human nature --- and maybe why we seem to keep getting into new wars so easily?
How many remember to celebrate May 9th? (<hint: the end of the Civil War, 1861-1865>)
Or September 3rd? (hint: the end of the Revolutionary War, 1776-1783>)

Worse yet, how about April 30? (<hint: the day we quit Vietnam in 1975 after 19 years, 5 months, and 29 days>)
Or August 30? (<hint the day we quit Afghanistan in 2021 after 19 years, 10 months, and 23 days>)

Little Rhody observed VJ Day...
And we're no longer supposed to say "VJ Day." It's now "Victory in The Pacific."

Hello Petr,

WoW !!!

It looks like the whole American Army is coming down that road :D :D :D :D :D !!!!

Incredible celebrations in Pilsen, it seems like 1000 vehicles and towns people out to watch it all !

Thank you so much for sharing this, I feel better after seeing such great commemorations, incredible !!

The vehicles marked as 16th Armored Division were great, that is an Armored Division that entered the war very late, and helped liberate Pilsen.

So nice to see, and I would like to attend some day.

My Father was air evacuated from Pilsen as a surviving POW he ended up there from a camp near Dresden.
They were camped all around the edges airfield there, with camp fires before they were flown back to France in C-47 planes.

On another note, the WW2 Veteran that grew up in my house here in Florida, who I knew very well, was in a Combat Engineering unit that arrived in Pilsen, during its long trek from England.

Ray

That's a wonderful video!
Does any vintage military vehicle parade in the U.S.A. come anywhere close to that?
