DoD and plant estimate for GPW
Hi all,
I have started the restoration of the GPW I recently got and am stripping it now from all non original things and alterations and parts that need to come off for the restoration and to be reconditioned.
As the GPW does not have the dataplate on the glovebox that matches the frame number I was wondering if anyone has an idea or info on the DoD of my GPW? The frame number is all I got and is 27419. Which makes it a May ‘42 GPW, just what would be likely be the DoD? As I will put that on the new dataplate and what weight would it should it be on there?
Possibly the hood will show a number when I carefully sand it or try to uncover it, but looking at how much was altered on the Jeep I am not sure if that number would be even the correct one if there is any number at all.
And any idea what plant it would be likely to come from?

Tom W. is the only one on earth who can answer this question and he does not come here. As far as I know.

Hi! Welcome to the forum, post some photos of your GPW and we can probably give you some pointers. If the serial number is stamped on the driver's side motor mount, it's a Louisville GPW, in which case the data plate would have 2265 and 1/4T stamped on it.

Dpcd67, where can I find it how to I contact Tom W?
OldGPW, I don’t know how to post pictures here. The frame number is on top of the frame on the driver side next to the engine. Facing to the outside. Other photos of the GPW wint say much as it’s already quite far taken apart.

In order to post pictures, you will have to download photo compression software or an app. Original files are way too big. I use an app called PhotoCompress. It’s relatively easy. Pictures help a lot. The compressed size will need to be around 250kb. Just click/tap the attachments tab below to add the pictures.
Numbers off the engine block are helpful too, assuming it is a GPW block.

No idea. He is the top GPW expert, and has lots of documentation, but apparently is very elusive.
What kind of computer do you have? On my MAC, I take a picture with a cell phone. It is automatically on my computer. I save that picture to documents, and then when you make a post, click on "attachments" then, "add files" at the bottom of this page.

Tom is on FB, he runs Military Vechicles by the Numbers page. Like others have said, Tom will need a good clear photo of your frame stamping, and he should be able to give you some info. All the best.

Tom was banned from the Gee. That’s why he’s not here.
