starting woes

Post by hagar » Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:43 pm

Having trouble restarting after running for awhile. Starts right up after
setting for 10-15 minutes. Just wondering if someone could lead me
in the right direction in trouble shooting or if anyone has had a similar
problem.

Thanks in advance
Hagar

I had a hot restart issue for a while. It turned out to be a poor connection at the filterette on the ignition circuit. Check and see if you have very weak or no spark condition when it refuses to start. That is how I started to track down the problem. I had to just clean and verify quality of connections from coil back to battery.

Could be a few issues, Engine needs to crank, steady, not half a turn then stop, then turn a little and stop again, you need spark, and you need fuel.

spark is easy, take the coil lead off the dist cap, put it near ground and hit the start button with the ignition on, dont get zapped, use fuse pulling pliers to hold the wire.

On shut down when hot, listen to the carb, do you hear fuel dripping or boiling? does the heat valve work on the ex manifold or is it stuck? when you are ready to try to restart her, take the air tube off the top of the carb, look down in her with the choke open, pump the accelerator pedal, you should see fuel squirting in. Dont crank it while looking in.

Figure out what is not happening there and follow that system.

I know. I have been on a roll with this issue lately, but
When is the last time you adjusted the valves ???
Starts & runs OK cold.
Maybe runs a little rough when up to operating temp.
Hard to start hot, but OK when it cools down.
Description fits.
Vacuum gauge might help.
Good vacuum cold but drops of as the engine heats up.
