Knock or drill out, it can then be replaced by using a long shanked grade 8 bolt cut to size & loctited in place

Mine appears to be a Ford and the ball looks like it is part of the gear stick itself, not brazed or welded on.
I assume that Willys must have been 3 parts = stick, ball, pin.
Whereas as Ford were 2 parts = stick and pin?

I can replace the pin, but that does not solve the worn ball.

Putting the stick in the lathe and turning off the ball, then fitting a replacement ball does not work as the
crank of the stick is too much to give me a clear swing in the lathe. Thus I assume that the Ford ones were
turned and the "finger" milled and then heated and cranked.

Don't know if heating the crank in the stick and straightening it so that I can lathe the ball off then
heating and resetting the angle of the crank would be being overly clever or not as the stick appears
to me to be heat treated for hardness its entire length?

For what it is worth, the one I have the pin is continuous all the way. No idea if it is original or not.

I've got an 'F' marked shifter with a loose pin. It can be pressed all the way through.

My Crimp One Off pin and slot were both badly worn on my '44 GPW; I was able to replace the pin as it is only pushed in, (actually it fell out!) drilled out the hole to suit a slightly larger bolt/pin and clean up the slot resulting in a much better gear selection.
Well worth trying

I replaced the pin in my shift lever with a NOS pin I got from a dealer in Texas. It did wonders for the shift function. Easy to install and a good fit.
