Having been in WWII jeeps with a TRS and those without, I can guarantee you with one hundred percent accuracy that the TRS makes a BIG difference. If it didn't, then there would be no need to require it on all 8-leaf front jeeps from both Ford and Willys now would there be?

Still waiting for the video of your jeep going down the road with the speedo needle winding past 60 and going to Zero (90+ MPH). On second thought, let's not ask Joel to kill himself just to attempt to prove that fallacy, OK? His bragging sometimes gets him caught in impossible situations not much different that the guy who literally paints himself into a corner.

Yada, yada, yada. Now that everyone has had an opportunity to chime in, consider this:
A (wartime, as produced non-modified) jeep, perhaps your jeep, will go as fast as -
It is capable of (assuming your excellent restoration skills have had an influence), and
As fast as you have the nerve to push it.

Be it 50MPH, 68MPH or in the odd even it were able to reach 89.7MPH.
Would you want to go that fast ?

Very subjective question here. Let's end this thread perhaps ?

Actually Chuck, my post you refer to was about how fast a Jeep will go, and not about how fast I normally drive it.
There is a one mile straight stretch of road a mile from me that accesses the interstate that had little traffic for its' first 30 years making it ideal to wind the Speedometers all the way around to "Zero" I have probably done this 10 times over a period from the 70's thru 2010 in my M-38A1's and most of the time without a passenger. There's nothing to it if your JEEP is maintained in factory spec and the driver has confidence in his JEEP. The few passengers who rode with me never appeared frightened.
I don't recommed this for anyone to try in their own JEEP tho..
The local National Guard OMS serviced several units and the technicians sometimes used M-38A1's to make the 90 mile trip to one of the other units at speeds of 60 MPH. Their M-38A1's had less than 10,000 miles at the time.back in the 60's
I am happy at 50-55 in my present M-38A1 when driving the highways but usually put along at 45MPH in order to enjoy the drive.
My MB feels just right at around 48MPH

Not bragging at all Chuck, just enjoying the happy JEEP hobby that has given me decades of non stop fun. Do I detect a little jealousy on your part?

Question, Chuck:

What about MB/GPW's that have TRS and factory installed10 leaf front Springs, are they safer?

1) only a fool would go 90MPH in a G503 or even an M38A1.....that is really tempting the hand of fate.
2) my SUV speedo goes to 140, but I am not too sure Joel would want to drive it past the maximum speed indicated on the speedo
3) more to the point here; WHY would anyone want to drive any vehicle 20-30MPH over what the speedo reads in the first place?
4) I guess I could (or anyone) post that I've driven my jeep 90MPH and just blather on about mechanical or service issues and never post ANYTHING to back up what I bragged I could do on the road, right?

Time for changing the subject or diverting attention away from yet another unproven boast.....right Joel?

Like I said....don't plan on seeing Joel's M38A1 whizzing down the highway at 90MPH in a video at any time in your lifetime, pegging the speedo needle past 60 to 90....he doesn't do it very often but since his M38A1 is maintained as great as it is, you'll have to believe the fairy tale he just told and if you noticed....he edited his post about that but not until AFTER a couple incredulous gee members pasted that bragging paragraph below his "genetically modified post".

Of course, since it is Fall in the East and Maine isn't socked in with snow, I suppose he COULD take that M38A1 out and do a U-tube video of it on that stretch of roadway he mentioned...…

Can you do that Joel?

Maybe it's time to start another post.

Title this one "Jeep Myth's and Legend's".

Unless of course, the video surfaces... :)

Ah, the nature of anonomous human interaction on the interweb without benefit (or courage) of having to look the other person eye-to-eye to say what you have to say (or not).......and the freedom to do so (at least for awhile until they abolish the 1st amendment). Things would probably be a lot different interacting in person (I hope). At least they used to be.

I don't like it much either, but have learned in this day and age to live with it and recognize that it's not likely to change. I chalk it up as (mostly) to entertainment value, a lot of "blather" (as others so aptly put it), with some definite "what not to do" mixed in. And I try to remember that we're all human, none perfect, and will make mistakes against each other once in awhile (hopefully not repeatedly or cut too deep). We're also supposedly adults? If you can dish it out you can also take it? But intentional provocation just to provoke isn't cool.....

All in all, good stuff as you say, a genuine gold nugget this forum is. And everybody who participates is what makes America GREAT!

By the way Bill, you might maybe have busted your own advice to refrain from answering  ? Couldn't resist saying so --- glad you did. Thanks!

Nobody else seems to be moderating on this forum so I thought I'd take a crack at it.

How's that for brass? 8)

I’d have to agree that the first amendment is a wonderful thing however, it does not apply to a privately owned and operated site such as G503. The owner and his charge set the rules.

I’m not going to make any threats, rude call out posts or personally chastise or admonish anyone on an open forum. That will be done in a PM. I have offered to help clean up and that is exactly what I intend to do. I want all of you to help!

I truly hope EVERYONE is willing to accept that there will be no more membership bashing by anyone. Everyone of the members here have something to add to the site. We have some of the sharpest military vehicle minds in the hobby right here! I want to encourage all to enjoy what the site and its members have to offer. Contribute what you can, learn what you can. It’s good for the hobby.

Rude, antagonistic, mean or combative posts will not be tolerated. Zero tolerance will be used. If you have a beef with a member or don’t like what they have posted, use restraint, ignore it and move on. Engage and that’s where the issues will start. Some may not like that and for that I am sorry but that is how it must be. Ron’s livelihood and reputation are at stake.

Please enjoy and bring to the table all your knowledge and take with you the knowledge others have to share. :)

I think a Group Hug may be in order here. (way different than a Group Grope.)
