Been collecting parts since I picked it up in Maine a few months ago. Got the motor stripped down today to get it off to the machine shop.

Looks like they did not believe in regular oil changes. Enjoy the build. Keep us updated.

Your crank actually doesn't look bad. The machine shop will tell you what to do.

Be sure they turn the rear area of the crank that the rear oil seal rides on if it shows ANY pitting or other sign of damage.

Taking the block, crank, head, and everything else to the machine shop tomorrow. Hopefully it is all minor machine work as everything except the cam looks pretty good. Minus the valve springs of course lol. The previous owner broke 2 of the pistons somehow while trying to get them out so I will need to get a new set of those once I find out if the cylinders will need to be bored and if so how much. Anyways hopefully I’ll know soon.

Very important. Another item I learned too late! You don't want your new seal to be torn up and that means oil drips!

Broke two pistons?

Maybe he didn't know what a ridge reamer is for.

Seen a lot worse, and as said the crank journals look pretty good, and that is more important than broken springs and pistons. I always replace the cam shaft on most builds anyway.

They probably would anyway, but be sure they magnaflux the block and head to check for cracks, and have them install new valve guides.

With that oil sludge, I would be sure to check the oil pump clearances.

Engine shop says no cracks or issues with prices and parts I brought down. They are doing all machine work and putting together a package of everything I need to reassemble the motor. Should be done by the end of April. Going to be hot riveting the new rear crossmember and battery tray on soon. Then I’ll start the reassembly. Got a bunch of new prices and parts stockpiled so hopefully progress will go relatively quick lol. Trying to locate a 6v generator for it as I discovered the original is not in the pile of pieces that came with it.

Great news about the block. Should be a great motivator to keep things going. Have you thought about contacting the seller of your MB to see if he simply forgot the generator?
I would be interested in seeing your rivet tooling, simple air hammer and bucking bar or?

I contacted him a while back because I was missing the air cleaner assembly, body handles, voltage regulator and a bunch of other stuff. He said I had it all and and double checked to be sure. I think there may be a box there with some parts in lol. Or he sold them on me. Anyways... I’ve acquired most of the stuff that was missing so forward ho. Going to go the air hammer and bucking bar and hope it goes smoothly.
