I'd think they in lieu of factual information on the unpainted finish as installed, we can only agree on the fact that by the time they rolled off the assembly line, they were olive drab.

So in that case, I'd suggest maybe considering a finish that paint will adhere to well.

My thoughts exactly- especially paint adhering to it!!!

Thanks,
Ian.

Ian, do you have any idea when you’d have some samples? I could use enough for two jeeps, plus possibly a friends jeep. If your project doesn’t work out I would go with the brand I posted earlier but I’d rather support a fellow G-man. Thanks

Reference spring finish.
I would hazard a guess that the spring finish would be the same as the rest of the nuts, bolts, fasteners etc used on the Jeep.
Does a drawing for this spring exist? It may give the specified finish.
Would it have been cadmium plated?

Jab, if Ian’s project doesn’t come together or is to far out for you I purchased all the material on This past Saturday to build these. I should have everything by the end of the week I’ll post up some pics when I get them put together for you and anyone else following this thread.

Lol! I’m hoping to need them in the next year or so. I have a lot of demands on my time and I work slow! Also, they’d be fairly easy to replace after the fact so I’m not in any hurry. Thanks!

No worries just thought I’d throw it out there.
You know how it is everything needs to be bought in bulk so I’m going to have a few extras.

Ridge, im not going to step on toes. If you've bought in bulk to make them up and sell on, go for it. I`ve not committed any dollars into mine yet, just to forward/backward of emails with the manufacturer. My order was for the minimum they'd make of 1000 springs (sounds alot, but when that only does 500 jeeps around the world, its not many!).

If you only bought 10 or 20 or so, i`ll carry on. If youve got a truck load i might step back (especially as it sounds like youve gone in for bolts and thr flat washers/lock washers/nuts to make a set up too).

Jeff, pending the above response, my springs should be sorted and here in the next few weeks (assuming I can get back to confirm the sample I was using as reference for the manufacturer!).

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian,
I understand and I don’t want to stop you from moving forward. I’m just trying to finish up my project and I couldn’t find anyone selling the spring loaded bolts so I just went ahead and bought them myself.

This was a one time thing for me I don’t have the time for buying and distributing over the long term. I was able to only buy 20 so enough for 10 Jeeps.

Thanks mate for letting me know. I understand where you are coming from.... my whole fastener sideline which funds my aussie jeep research started that way when i needed something I couldn't get out here in Australia- buying 100 when I only needed 10 and selling on the rest to local collectors!

I'll continue on with my springs and see what I can finalise. The supplier said they also make bolts, so i may be able to get the bolts made too pending price (doesn't it always!).

Cheers, Ian.

Hmm....what would a valve spring look like compared to the body/frame spring?

$16.68 USD. plus shipping.
They look good.
I wonder if the bolt and washers are Stainless.
They look Stainless how ever the description indicates made to WWII spec's. so maybe not.

I’m a little late to this thread but I was searching for GPW body bolt springs and came across this thread from last year. I thought I’d reply for posterity that one of my bolts and springs was in very good condition with the spring having and almost satin black finish to it. The other spring was surface rusted with no finish remaining. The other side bolt is ok but not brilliant. I don’t know if I should replace the bolt and spring or just keep and re-use them.

Also on a side note, my frame appears to be drilled for the rear floor to frame bolts of 5/16” diameter. Does that sound correct? And would they be 1.5” long. The 3/8” bolts are to big.

Hello,
In preparation for installing my May 42' body to the frame, I would like to install these springs as based upon research and my jeep markings, it is likely my jeep had these springs installed. Has anyone been able to source these body springs recently and if so, can you please provide the source? Thanks.

Kind regards,
Todd
