T-84 Transmission

Post by bigdogblues » Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:34 pm

I posted an ad in the classifieds looking for a T-84 transmission to replace my T-90 currently in my GPW
(with an MB engine)
One of the members suggested that I may need a bell housing and transfer case as well.
The suggestion was that I may have a civilian bell housing and transfer case.
Can someone please explain how I can determine whether I have civilian or WW2 components?

Regards
Bruce

The big clue for the T18 is the size of the intermediate shaft. For WWII era, you want 3/4". You'll also have a groove for the interlock plunger where it mounts to the transmission (not visible with the transmission connected). Here is a post explaining some of the differences in T18 cases:

As for the bellhousing, if you've got a T90, I can almost guarantee it's not original.

An update, for anyone who is interested.
Looks like I got lucky on the transfer case. It is indeed a military case, and
not civilian as I had worried it might be.
Not only does it have a 3/4" intermediate shaft, but it was very crudely ground
out to fit behind a T-90
