GABRIEL SHOCKS-EVER NOTICE?

Post by Ben Dover » Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:42 am

Ever notice the remarks about GABRIEL Shocks installed on WWII Jeeps and Trailers being "non adjustable"?
TM9-1803B Page 104 Paragraph 37 contradicts those remarks.

This is interesting, but how do you "adjust" shocks?

The WWII adjustable Jeep shocks are adjusted by compressing them all the way and turning them one way or the other. There is a mechanism that keys the halves together in order to adjust. I have NOS set on my MBT and took a lot of bounce out of it by adjusting.

This is all in Paragraph 157 of your TM9-803A Jeep Operators Manual. Only the WWII GI Issue Jeep shocks are adjustable.

Up until now the only adjustable shocks I ever encountered were some version of the older knee action shocks, but don't remember whether those were Chevy or Packard, I worked on both.

Sounds like it may be worthwhile to look for NOS shocks, if any are still available.

I could not find the WWII Shock absorber Part numbers listed in the Willys parts system after WWII.
