This is exactly why it is "used, bent, broken or rusty" for me. That some repop place would have such a cavalier approach to the safety of the end users. But its no surprise. Most of the aftermarket stuff for our jeeps is complete rubbish. Why even repop the stuff if you cant be bothered to get the holes in roughly the same position. Ive weaned myself off of the ebayers claiming "U S made perfect remake". Hogwash.

I have had one alternate experience and that is stuff provided by John at Midwest. Perfect!

The brand listed in this thread is a red flashing warning to me. I even set my ebay filters so no listings with this stuff waste my time as I search.

How do we go about identifying a bad sector shaft? Is there any way to do it without any teardown? Thanks!

Since this is such an old post and I am considering a rebuild of my steering box, is there any new status/information on this issue? I see Ron has sector shafts in stock and I assume they are high quality and do not have this problem.

Thanks,

Earlier in this thread. Ron posted, back in the day, that he never stocked the OMIX-ADA ones.

So I'd not really worry about it if you had one of his.

Looking at the pictures on Ron’s website, he sells joes motor pool shafts, which look good quality. Fairly local to me, their kit always seems solid and accurate. £55 in uk. Just about to rebuild my lad’s steering box and they’ll be my go to, if it’s needed.

We ordered a jmp shaft after all. The studs were loose on the existing one and it had some wear. A previous owner had filled it with grease instead of stopping the leaks so it’s been washed out and we’ll put the new shaft and rebuild kit in next weekend. It’ll be nice not to have 12” of play at the wheel. 😁
Need to find a good oil for it here in uk though. Any suggestions?

Cheers scrumps. I see millers also do a vintage worm box oil. Not sure how thick to go at the mo. It will be well sealed with new parts so none of the fluid should leak.
