Sorry, I was in a rush and did not check the quality of the pictures. the glove box pic is the best. you can zoom in and see the number better.

This thing is sitting under a half covered side awning on a barn getting pummeled by weather. The guy is hard to deal with. He acts like it is sentimental. His new wife wants it gone. I have my chance. Time to strike.

I have heard of Golden Retriever rescue, German Shepard rescue and Pit Bull rescue. I am going to start a Willys/GPW rescue. LOL

GPW 1533 came from the same assembly plant and has the same DoD as GPW 1871.

My GPW studies and databases show that there has only been about 250 GPWs under serial number 5000 recorded as existing in the last 25 years world wide so to have two under serial number 2000 ( of which there seems to be currently a little over 100 ) in the same State to me, at least, is interesting to see where these very early GPWs have ended up.
Gotcha. Could it have anything to do with FT Sill being a training base? Hood and Sill are both pretty large posts, and there's a huge mil "presence" at least today, in both states.

Got a hold of him again. He is going to check with his Dad to see if he will accept my offer. I guess his dad is the owner.

The switch to a Mechanized Cavalry from the horse/motorcycle cavalry as a recon outfit occured right as the Bantam jeeps were put into the field with Cavalry units. In fact, during WWII the Cavalrymen refered to their jeeps as "Bantams" long after they had been issued MBs/GPWs, just out of habit.

Perhaps the very early jeeps were sent to the forts where Cavalry outfits were based or trained and those seem to be in Texas (Ft. Bliss comes to mind) so maybe the reason these VEP GPWs are now found in that area is simply due to the fact there were in that area all along.

I don't believe that a Cavalry unit that had trained on jeeps, M8s, Stuarts, etc. would have shipped out with their vehicles...they would leave them and draw new vehicles when they arrived in the ETO.
