Slightly off topic, but could somebody help me decipher the Serial Number 2H029125 on an Autolite 6 volt Voltage Regulator Model VRY4203 on a 1944 Ford GPW Jeep. Does the Serial Number conceal a date of manufacture? Thanks. Mike

Mike,

To clarrify what CJV-35 says and answering part of your questions 'Does the Serial Number conceal a date of manufacture'.
2H is the date code.
2 being february,
H being 1953

eg: on war time dated autolite parts:
V= 1941
W= 1942
X=1943
Y= 1944
Z= 1945

If you look about, there are a few sites, Jeepdraw included which has the date codes for autolite (and prestolite) parts. I cannot remember the situation with I (eye!) and O (ooh) though as they can often be confused for 1 (one) and 0 (zero).

Cheers,
Ian.

Anyone have rare NOS CCKW cosmetic parts to trade? SWB Spare Tire Lock comes to mind.

Still have this NOS VRY-4204. We sold a lot of them to MB/GPW owners over the years, they were all yellow tagged (Serviceable Tag) with a the note G-503 written on them. Came from PIAFB in the 50's.

Will consider an unused "New Life" MB Jeep Canvas in trade.

NOS VRY 4204 still available, I sold a number of these NOS USAF Surplus Regulators over the past 50 years to G-503 customers. Have just the one left, Never been opened up. The VRY 4204 is Lusterless O.D. and has smooth cover and cork gasket. It is made to go with all 6Volt 40Amp Neg Ground MB/GPW Generators.

What was the VRY-4204 regulator used on during WWII or after?

IIt does surface in Autolite charts, except for the number, it is identical in every value to the 6V 40Amp Neg Ground VRY 4203. They seemed to surface with surplus GTB items but that is not enough to go on. Jeff Hoch also found referencte to these in some AutoLite literature.

Also, at one time I read fhat this particular version was for vertical installations, GTB was a vertical installation.

That is a 1954 dated Autolite Equipment and Parts List.

However....
According to your post in the 2 1/2 ton truck forum dated 2/22/10:
"The GTB uses the same VRY-4203 40 amp regulator as the MB/GPW"

I am aware of that, but I have bumped into information over the years about VRY-4204A. It is listed in the TM9-1825B ORDNANCE MANUAL for Autolite. The AL ORD Manual does not list applications.
