A very wise choice.aamir567 wrote:I restored it in 1990. It took me almost one year to restore.
I am using my Ford GPW 1942 on extreme offroading on its original specs.
So far so good. My Ford GPW compete with all the 4x4's in our club ( Islamabad Jeep Club ) Pakistan.
Its performance is also up to the mark.
Rally organisers some time ask for Mandatory Roll bar & Seat belts.
I think i use it for Offroading events within our club n should not take part in competetions where roll bar is Mandatory.

Hotchkiss M201s (licence built Willys MBs) were often fitted with a neat rollcage in the French army. I have always felt that if I were to do some serious off-roading, I would use a Hotchkiss. Slightly more expendable! I give a link to my recent story of rolling a Jeep. Its not fun, and rather too easy. I would feel very exposed doing the stuff you show in your photos without a cage and harness of some sort. You will see some photos of M201 rollcages in this thread..... viewtopic.php?t=137314&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Re: Ford GPW 1942
8/10 WWII Jeeps in India and Pakistan are being used for off roading and only have the original exterior looks. Most of these vehicles don't have original engine but in Aamir's case he has a original engine (Saw it on T-Bhp)
Aamir, Welcome to the G!
You have a great vehicle with even greater history. Unlike you I was not fortunate and I don't have a go devil engine for my ’43 GPW
Like what people have told you here, if you can avoid using your '42 GPW for off roading please do so(if you have to compromise its originality with roll cage etc). I suppose Kaiser’s are easily available in Pakistan and you can use it to fulfill your OTR desires.
P.S - How is the WWII Jeep parts scene in Pakistan. Are they as hard as in India?

Re: Ford GPW 1942
Hi Aamir,
Just a thought about a roll Bar, If you can get one fabricated, you might try using the 4 Holes in the rear Floor where the Machine Gun Mount Bolt's to the Frame for the center over head and run two Tubes back, to attach to the rear Body and Frame Bolts also in the rear Floor, as far as seat Belts ,I would use the rear Bolt locations in the Front Seat's.
Just my thought's, this Modification would allow you to remove the Roll Bar later if you like, without any Modification to the body or frame to keep the originality of your Jeep.
Have you looked at UTUBE on the Web for any off road video's ???
p.s. Send us a Picture of the Jeep Junkyard you where telling us about!
Take care of that Cool Jeep !!!!

I especially liked the Oakland A's cap on the passenger in the video (they are our home team).
