Hello Tom
I need some infos about this dataplate

Image

Why the day it is not marked ?

Thanks
Alberto
Hello Alberto,

From my GPW studies, GPW 230373 should have come from the Richmond, Ca. assembly plant. From what I have seen the Richmond plant did not use a day date in the DoD on the data plate.

I have matching numbers GPW 230283, just 90 less than this one, but it's missing this plate. I'm wondering if anybody else has some others that are nearby that can allow me to assume that mine is also from this batch of Richmond, CA GPW's. If so it sort of makes it easy for me to "correctly" stamp the repro-data plate as I already narrowed it down by features (body tub number, dated differentials, and early rear springs) to mid-October '44. The fact that these GPW's aren't day-stamped makes it so much easier! Thanx!!!

Hello Martin 2 Could you type in your data plate information. I am having trouble reading it just from the pics you posted. I too have a 42 GPW with brass info plates but an aluminum(?) data plate in the middle. Thanks, it is most appreciated. Best wishes; Leo

Hello, I know this post started quite a while ago, and I am using some of this data to try to help reconstruct a data plate for my June 42 GPW. My frame number is GPW 37441 and Tom W. has been quite helpful in letting me know based on the frame number my jeep came from Louisville and was made about mid June 1942. He has given me an estimated army registration number range of 20128--- to 20129---. If anyone has a jeep close to mine with a confirmed or as found registration number, I would appreciate you posting it here or PM me.

One thing that happens with a post this old is allot of the early pictures sent in are no longer visible. Guess I came in too late on this one. Also though it may not have been asked for in the topic if army registration (hood) numbers are known it would have been nice to see them here also.
I had GPW 12102 a long time ago which was a a broken frame, salt eaten away rusted piece of junk, but I had no data plates but did find the hood number on both sides of hood It was 2066889. Hope this info can help a fellow GPW guy out.

GPW 7588

Post by Gene2013 » Sun May 23, 2021 4:57 am

Here is the plate from GPW 7588.

This is a funny one...........

There is a guy in The Netherlands I think he is located in who collects info on data plates. You send him info and a photos and he used to make and send you a set of minature ones back.

I never realized until he pointed it out to me that my plate is stamped incorrectly.

The date of delivery is actually stamped in the gross weight pane of the plate.

He pointed out to me jokingly that the 23rd of March 1942 was a Monday and that the person who stamped this probably had a bad hangover LOL

He stated that my jeep is a Chester PA assembled one.

I'm missing my data plate and I'm trying to figure out if it would have also been aluminum even thought the other two are brass. Mine is serial number 23254 Louisville plant mid May 1942
