Another data plate, 1944 alum. Picked it up with other parts from an elderly man in southern Oregon. I think he told me the jeep was parted out. Plates still attached to glove box door.

Quick question about the weight stamped on original data plates I found on the internet...

Why are some original plates stamped 3253 lbs, 3250, 3125, 2430, 2288, 2265, etc.?

I could understand a little variation due to changes or accessories added, but which is right for a 1942 GPW produce in late April, 1942?

Thanks!

Brent

Hey everyone, I thought that I would throw mine into the fray!

I have GPW-98391 , DOD 02-22-1943, with engine serial number GPW-20614. Interestingly, it came titled as GPW-20614 so there's some mystery there.

Hello everyone.
1. I would very much like to ask my colleague YLG80 to post again how to renew nameplates or to activate the link from the old post - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=194502 because new Jeep enthusiasts keep arriving and the nameplates are getting older.
2. Please answer the question why there is no Ordnance Corps mark (stamp) on the GPW nameplates? I don't see it on the plates.
3. Pictured is a plate from one of my Jeeps and the retained original bolts.
Salutations, T. Berestecki.

Pitt; first post I see; welcome.
No mystery; many states registered/titled military vehicles from the engine number; they did not know where the frame numbers were stamped and on a Willys, either didn't know where the data plate was, or didn't care. And some states DMV wanted a more permanent thing than a plate on a glove box door that could be removed in 3 minutes. Seen all kinds of numbers on titles. I had a 42 GPW titled as a 1940 two door Ford, with the correct GPW serial number. I questioned the DMV lady about getting changed; she looked in her computer and said, Ford didn't make cars in 1942. I told her it was indeed a 42 Ford and showed her some information. She said, Well maybe I won't be able to issue you a title. Upon which I shut up; don't argue with the DMV ladies here.

Exactly the same experience in the past, next door here in Wisconsin. Same situation too, even on the GPW I'm working on right now, titled as the engine number. After it's running I may try to correct it to the frame number, but see point one about DMV ladies....

In the above post Willys MB (serial number: 308650) was still running until recently, needs to be repaired, improve the body, engine original. Frame number missing, body number not visible - I need to unscrew the fender.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Ford GPW needs to be rebuilt, stripped to the smallest part, nameplate missing, body number 111237, on the frame no. 141967.
Another Willys MB disassembled, needs rebuilding, nameplate missing, frame no. missing, body no. 170219.
Nowadays spare parts are available, not what they were a few years ago, with mechanics I can handle, only worse with turners.
