No, not that I’ve ever seen. I’ve only seen straightforward standard stampings from the front of the plate.

thank you. I refer to the writing on the data plate, not to the service number and to the dod. I saw some plates with embossed lettering and others not....ImageImageImage

Try putting a magnet under the stamped area on the frame and sprinkle fine metal filings over the numbers on top of the frame. The metal filings may align to the stamped numbers more clearly. It is a non-destructive testing technique to show possible issues in ferrous metal that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Let us know if it works with a photo.

the try with the magnet have not help me. No results.

But i can not understand if the original data plates willys should have embossed lettering or not.

The answer is: is it possible that there are original non-raised data plates?

Hi Folks GPW128610. August 5, 1943. I have attached the data plate and photo of the frame stamp. I don't know the vehicle history so any info you can share is appreciated. I bought it from the big island of Hawaii and I am in Honolulu.
Thanks
joe

Why do the gross vehicle weight numbers change so radically between GPWs?
52 M38 2X, '52 M37, '44 WC51, '42 WC 56/57, '50 CJ-V35(U), '42 GPW, '44 M3A1 Scout Car, 2010 M-Gator

Nice! Matching fonts on the engine and frame; same stamp set probably.

Hey guys !
Here is the Jeep Willys MB 237587 which will be ready 5-25-43
I wonder if this car was in the early days. The car was registered in Finland in 1956. Next summer the car is in excellent condition.
If you can give me a tip or know more about the history of the car, I would be very grateful.
I put pictures when I get pictures attached to a file.
This text comes from a country that has paid all the war pay in due time, hopefully never again!

2 questions (which have probably been asked/answered somewhere already);
a) when did Willys plates switch from QMC to ORD?
b) would a Dec. '42 MB have the standard 3 plates on glovebox or standard 3 plus plate affixed to dash?

Hi cooper9411,

I think you are seeing the 3 plates attached to the dash are slat grill MB's without a glove box.
When the glove box was introduced the plates were fixed to it and that was in February 42.
As for the QMC/ORD change I can't remember the time but I have seen MB's with original plates of Dec 42
with QMC on them.
Cheers
Gary

I recently picked up my first GPW serial #GPW85526. My data plates are pretty shot, and was missing half of the main plate, but after an electrolysis bath, was able to pull the delivery date 12-8-1942, which was pretty awesome.
