Stirred up sediment in the gas tank and clogged the fuel filter?

I had that issue with an M-20. After jossling around on the trailer for 200 miles I found the float in the carby bowl was stuck up and kept the fuel valve in the bowl from opening. SImple to check.

Does it start if you spray starting fluid into the carb? (Even if it will not stay running, this will tell you a lot).

I will try all the above suggestions
to answer the other questions the fuel is approx 7 months old now
I've checked the spark by pulling a plug & visually seeing if it is there while cranking the engine over did the same visual with coil wire

What's it doing? Any evidence it's trying to fire up? The list of possible causes is long, but plug wires do go bad (usually not all at once though!). Any chance you accidentally reversed the plug wires when you got into the distributor?

Don't flood it, but did you adjust the choke so that it gets enough fuel?
