GPW Jeep crate

Post by matt506 » Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:36 pm

Does anyone on here have the blueprints for the crate used to ship Jeeps? I’m looking to build one to use as a base for an Officers wall tent as the used in ww2. Any help on this and stencils would be great. Matt

Interpolate/calculate/estimate the dimensions. Markings are there.

In Richmond (?) California, there is a Rosie the Riverter museum in the old Ford plant. They have on display a crated jeep. Don't know how authentic this crate is, as the jeep itself could use some detail attention. Perhaps there is someone there with access to the original crate plans.

Yeah, I bought one of these in 1966 for $50; advertised in Life Magazine. Had the crate in the barn until last winter and we burned it in the stove. Should have asked earlier.

This doesn't answer your question but if you want to see how MD Juan does it when you order their "Kit in a Crate" maxi-kit and specify this crate and not their standard one, here are some pics. I have no idea if the crate dimensions or features are like the 1940s ones.

I did help the OP; I provided him with videos so he can estimate dimensions from original pictures. I have never seen a drawing of a crate, so I think that is the only way to make one.

I searched the Henry Ford archives linked above in the technical knowledge base, No blueprint but at least a historical photo of workers in the Detroit factory loading GPWs into wooden creates. Some detail can be obtained from this, so you should take a look. I searched “GPW create”
