Bell Housings

Hi All, just wrapping my brain around bell housings. Do the Cj bell housings have a v shaped bottom to them with the same part number? see pics below.

Did early GPW housings without the boss still have the taped hole?

CJ? note the V shape at the top of the pic.

CJ? Same housing as above . PArt numbers are teh same as an MB.

Did early GPW housings without the boss still have the taped hole?

Yep,, trick is finding one without the tapped hole.

Where do you see a v shape? bell housing part number didnt change till the cj3a came out. The all look the same to me,

Third pic down. At the top of the picture, MBs look straight, this one looks like it humps up, not straight across.

If you are talking about the shape of the face of the bell housing, where it meets the tranny, The v shapes seem to be on post war bell housings, looks like all the post war, as in cj2a, have a W3 number or something like that embossed right before the A-xxx. where as the war time ones only have a-xxx. yell if you see something different.

That was my thought, just want to see if that was the basic way to identify them.
I'll have to look for the W3.

there is a W marked one on facebook now, I believe this is post war.

I have a broken f marked one listed in the for sale section
