Any value in a early T84 case needing repair

Post by 1943Willysgpw » Wed Jun 13, 2018 7:24 am

I have an early (oil fill and drain on right side) T84 case has the front cluster gear hole egged out. I know these can be repaired by a machinist. My question is the value of this case as is? Thank you.

I’ve recently (in the last couple years) paid about $100 a case for a couple of right hand fill T84 cases in good condition. The problem with a worn case is getting the hole repaired and machined/aligned in the correct spot. I hate to say it’s a paper weight but a worn case doesn’t have a lot of value. The cost saved is minimal compared to the time and expense of reworking a worn case. Good cases are still out there but in a few years the cost may go up.

Luc Cousins has done these types of repairs and those required for a wallowed out front bearing opening in his machine shop but he's in Europe and currently banned from the gee courtesy of the verbal goading by another gee member.

Too bad...he probably has all the measurements for having that repair done on those valuable early GPW R/S/F cases!

He can talk the talk and walk the walk, unlike those who just talk the talk if you get my meaning here.

Too bad about Mr. Cousins, I have read a lot of his prior posts, and the man certainly knows a lot.

On another forum, unrelated to Jeeps, I have seen several people's business ruined by similar attacks.

Who is the moderator for the G?
Does he not see both sides of that disagreement?
I always enjoyed reading Luc’s posts as they were informative and practical.

Thanks. Just did not want to throw it in the scrap pile if it was worth something to someone.

Would make an interesting lamp base for the "man cave".

They make excellent boat anchors as the open ends and top dig into the bottom silt and mud.

Hi,

If you're gonna throw it away then throw it in my direction. However I'm in Europe I think I will pay the shipment and have it repaired by Luc Coesens.

Regards,

Jos

OK. I would have probably told myself that I would make a lamp or something like suggested. (Like I would ever find the time)

I actually have an early and a late. The late is not that far out of spec but enough to cause grief.
