YAY, the end of the lock down

Post by Derrick » Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:18 am

As we have all read, we are coming to the end of lockdown (well at least in the UK, England)

I am going to have a chance of going out in my Jeep

I am hoping to go off camping, Devon, Cornwall way, mainly minor roads

Maybe campsites, maybe wild camping (I have done an awful lot of that on my travels, but its always been in a big yellow truck) they really have been off the beaten track

Now I do have some concerns, I have a crook lock, (the really old one, its works fine) I also have a full winter kit (with the doors)

Its been years since I have been to Devon and Cornwall, so things have changed

How safe is a Jeep being left on a meter, in a car park ?

I know when ever I go out around here, its pretty safe, people just want photos of it, no one has tried opening the doors, (I have stood back and watched them, they look through the windscreen, lots of whoooos and ahhs

But this is Devon and Cornwall, miles from home

So any thoughts would be appreciated

(I am a member of the AA, so if I do get stuck I will have them to call on)
I live in the UK (US seller websites are no use to me, I cant buy from them)

Buying from the US is too expensive, when you add on the shipping, P&P

Ah, there must be someone out there in Devon and Cornwall that knows if its worth spending a holiday down there

Has it changed a lot in the 40 odd years since I was there, what shops are still open, are the piers still there, any old and new campsites

Have they done anything to attract tourists back ?

We spent a lot of time in Paignton, Torquay,Teignmouth, the country pubs on Dartmoor, then just walking around Dartmoor, a few villages, just anywhere that looked or sounded interesting

Can anyone come up with any recommendations ?

No kidding. i just got back from the Plymouth meet up near Sacramento. Toured through some of the old gold rush towns, no masks anywhere. No reduced seating either. It was great to return to normal.
