Normandy 2019

Post by awddouglas » Sun Nov 25, 2018 11:30 am

Does anyone know if the ridiculous UK temporary 'export licence' for military vehicles is still necessary to take my jeep and ex British Army land rover to Normandy next year?

reading this, my 2 jeeps and schwimmwagen were all built before 1946 and whilst the landrover was build after, it is DVLA registered.

So according to this, all i need to do is print a copy of the OGEL and take it in the landrover. The rest is immaterial.??

Picknick ok, but the Jeep meeting is, well, for Jeeps.

No problem with that. Would be nice if we could a short trip in the Schwimmwagen. Never done that.

Hi guys, for a better planing for us and the guys from Battery Maisy, we would try to count those fellows, who already know that they will come to the G503 Picknick on June 2nd. at Batterie Maisy. Just send me a E-Mail to g503-picknick-2019@web.de and tell me, yes, we come, vehicles, persons, country. Not necessary but helpful! Thanks in advance! Ingo, Robin and Reg

My wife and I, and son who lives in Limoge,FR will be there Jun 5th-7th. Housing is about 45m away.

Anyone have suggestions on how to maximize the visit? Looks like traffic will be an issue driving in. I assume try to get there early and plan for a lot of walking. We have not been, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would love to be around lots of MV's.

Tom

Be prepared for a restricted access security zone to be in place likely on 6 June around Omaha Beach and the American cemetery do to VIPs taking part in commemorations. Specifics will get posted as the VIP schedules are finalized. In 2014 the security zone extended as far as Utah Beach and folks that were staying in that area were not allowed to reenter the area if they left. Traffic will be heavy, but bearable, since there are so many events taking place simultaneously in different locations. The N13 is a four lane highway that extends across Normandy and provides easy access to event areas. The narrow side and farm roads can be an issue with multiple period vehicle convoys continually touring through the countryside, many of those roads are only wide enough to allow for one way traffic. A GPS unit with local maps is extremely helpful. There are a number of living history encampments each with dozens of vehicles (Vierville, Ste. Mere Eglise, Carentan, St Marie du Mont, St, Come du Mont, Colleville-Sur-Mer, Merville Battery). Camp Geronimo by the Airborne Museum in Ste. Mere Eglise is advertising that they will have nine tanks. There were hundreds of Jeeps in 2014, some from vehicle clubs coming from as far as Italy and Poland. There are round canopy parachute jumps from C-47’s scheduled for 5 and 7 June, none on the 6th do to airspace restrictions. Pray the unpredictable weather cooperates. Here is a link to the official event schedule for Normandy: http://bayeux-bessin-tourisme.com/wp-co ... 2019-1.pdf
