Camp Delta 2018 Swap Meet & MV Gathering, Tower Park Resort, Sept 18-23

Post by John Neuenburg » Sun Aug 05, 2018 11:32 am

The annual Camp Delta Fall Meet is returning to Tower Park Resort, 14900 W. Hwy 12, Lodi, CA. This is six miles west of Interstate 5 at a large RV park and boating center on a river in the California Delta. It's camping oriented with hotels six miles away. This has always been the second largest, annual event for historic MVs in the Western US, only behind the annual April meets in this area.

For those who have never been, the big days are Wednesday - Saturday. Sunday is a pull out day. Some show up early in the week to watch the buildup and to snag bargains for sale. Anyone can put out sales goods but it has to be at a paid campsite or cabin. No vending otherwise (there is no common space in our area). All obsolete ex-military vehicles are invited in any condition, from any nation's service. No judging.

No admission fee or day-visitor/commuter parking fee. Visitors park along the shady, levee road right next to the campground.

Go to the Military Vehicle Collectors of California web page www.MVCCNews.net for other info including activities and a campground map with notes. There is also club contact info, an event calendar, and a link to a photo gallery of past events on the home page .

Last year we moved the Fall meet from Campground 4 (where the pools and Pavilion building are), to Campground 2/3 next to the levee, marina, restaurant, store. It was very nice. It got us away from the families wanting to use the play structures and water features. A new water park has been built this year. We are repeating the location this year. Little dust, lots of shade, protection from the wind, nearly all MV event people in our area.

Although the time when sites can be reserved at our discount has lapsed, discounts can still be had. Go directly to the Jellystone Park camping reservation system at www.towerparkresort.com or call 209-369-1041. On the reservation page look for "Package Deals." These are is savings off of regular rates. Then plug in what type of site or cabin you want to see sites on the map. Experiment to see all site options. Or just phone the office. If there are any cancellations, these sites will pop back into the system, so if you don't see what you want, keep trying. There are also RV sites in the newly renovated Campground 1, and in the Campground 4 entrance area near our main area. Remember, all are at normal rates unless you get a "Package Deal." Do not ask for our group discount. It won't work!

As of this writing there are DISCOUNTS available for new cabin and campsite rentals. As mentioned, we are past the point where our group discount applies, but Jellystone Park offers PACKAGE DEALS to the public which lowers the regular rates. See these deals on the reservation page at www.towerparkresort.com. For example at certain times of year, like during our Fall event, they offer 4 nights for the price of 3! That's the same as our 25% group discount! Another deal is when you book a Friday and Saturday campsite you can add Thursday or Sunday for only $25. If a cabin rental the extra day is half price. It's possible the PACKAGE DEALS can disappear, so book now.

Today I noticed when experimenting with the reservation system there are a few back-in sites available in our area, and one cabin ("our" area is marked on the campground map on www.MVCCNews.net on the event page). There are also very nice Red Carpet Pull-Through sites in Campground 1 which is the remodeled area across from the boating businesses that used to be the long-term camping area. This is close to where our event is centered and there is an open gate between them.

There are details about the military radio display and demos over on the radio forum. Quite entertaining:

Just checked the reservation system. There are several campsites available in our area and one deluxe cabin. Some great spots for sales traffic. There are also many Red Carpet sites in adjacent Campground 1. There are discounts available to the public at this time of year, like four nights pay for three (that's like our group discount), rent Fri and Sat and get Thurs or Sun for $25, and a weekday buy one get one free deal. See these and the availabilities here:
https://reservation.campspot.com/tower- ... Njk5Njc%3D

Remember that you book as general public now. Our group block discount is not available, although the 4 for 3 deal is the same. Don't tell the office you are part of the MV group because that will just confuse them and you might get the wrong answer, like they are "full." Our "block" has been full for a long time, but their campground especially the renovated one just past their office and across from the boat dealers has lots of spaces available.

The meet was very nice with a lot of parts and militaria bought and sold, and of course the usual MV tire kicking.

Chuck Reuter organized a photo shoot by the Campground 4 Pavilion at 3 on Friday. He passed the word around in the morning and went around reminding folks at 2:45. Good thing because I would have forgotten! A lot of MV owners didn't make the shoot but we had a nice lineup. Laurent Potit had the right flank with his Mule with Dean Peck next to him. This and other photos might require some scrolling to see the width. Thanks to So Cal MVCC Editor Al Wollonciej for this and following photos:
