Worth of note, the rivets on the fuel nozzle lever, perfectly fitting with postwar manufacture.

Brad M's discovery of the "before and After D-Day photos from Life Magazine are priceless, especially the color photo of the GI and the stacks of tagged GI Cans.
Those Red WWII 80 Octane Tags look great! Don't they?

I cant add much to the origin of the tag but the UK supplied 10 000 000 to the US.
The table shows some of the US materials gained from the UK prior to D Day.

I do not know if this has already be addressed but I believe your are wrong on this one. I can see tens of tags in the front rows of jerrycans. Some are very evident. To make sure I was right I ordered a HD print from the Archives and can confirm that almost all the cans HAVE A TAG!

My input on Mogas...my postwar experiance in the USAF,
fuel bladders, cans, vehicles, and powered aircraft support equipment were all labled either:
JP4,5,8etc
Mogas
Deisel

To make it clear the type of fuel used...some AGE equipment ran on jet fuel, some deisel, and some mogas...ie gasoline..no formula to go like hell..just gasoline...seems that horse has been beat but....
