Re: British made cans
There is a lot of information on these cans in the Jerry Can Forum on Facebook. Great discussion group and the original yellow has been discussed and documented quite a bit.

Re: British made cans
I'm not on Facebook. I know I would spend my life on it and just become too distracted. What's App is bad enough.
Any yellow refs would be helpful though.
Thanks

Re: British made cans
Take a look at RAL1024 'yellow ochre' although some cans appeared to be an even brighter almost lemon yellow. There's a Krylon paint in the US "Matte Wild Honey" which seems to match pretty well.

Re: British made cans
Thanks. Actually that's pretty close to the original paint on the j-can. That's put me on the right track.
Interesting typing RAL1024 in Google images so see such a range of the "same" colour .
Cheers ! David V

Re: British made cans
David,
It won't really help on the exact shade of color, but if you search the LIFE photo collection ( http://images.google.com/hosted/life ) there are some WWII colour photos from the Arabian region showing large stacks of sand/yellow jerrycans at a petroleum facility.
I had links saved on a previous computer, of course that is of no help to either of us now.
Happy hunting if you decide to look.

It is upsetting and, I would hasten to say, rather reckless

Hello Pieminister,
That is outstanding, what great pictures from your father's efforts during the War.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing the pictures !!
Looks like he did a great job in Egypt getting that factory up and running making those gas cans to fuel the Allied efforts !!
Wouldn't it be nice to find that factory, and discover all the tooling and machines still there !!
Best Regards,
Ray
