Hi all,

Very interesting post from a good many years ago.
Would be a great idea to put a "sticky" on it and add upon with newer information on manufacturers codes (and have somebody keep it up to date => Dom K.?).
I have added a couple here for the British "Jerry" can Manufacturers - 1941 to 1945 .
F&L : Fisher & Ludlow, Birmingham UK
RTMP : Still under debate / search; see viewtopic.php?f=37&t=305269
UPDATE: now confirmed as Richard Thomas Metal Products/Pressings of Swansea - South Wales
AMC : Austin Motor Company (?)
"Triangle with point down" with PSC inside triangle: Pressed Steel Cowley
RTB : Richard Thomas & Baldwins, Wales UK (post-war); found in combination with CP&F

ABL : unknown in combination with W/I\D and year otherwise possibly Armee Belge - Belgisch Leger = Belgian Army

US WW2 you can add:

Boyco
Chatanooga
Daniels
Magnatex (circle M marking)
Russakov
S.A. Jr. Toys
USSPC-B

I thought Conco was Continental Can Company....

Hey, all. I'm currently sporting a can marked USMC stamped (1.5") on the lower side. The filler is smaller cam type, so I'm thinking actually water can. Empty weight and construction feels appropriate for older manufacture. Thoughts please? (not able to post photos)
Thanks, Eddie

Just an update to the list ... E.W.B. (E.W. Bliss Ltd, Derby) and R.T.M.P (Richard Thomas Metal Pressings of Swansea) and yes I know the debate about RTMP but the other argument doesn't really stack up (IMV).

Dom K is correct in identifying CONCO as H.D. Conkey Company.

Some new info regarding the list of U.S. Manufacturers that Dom K compiled in 2005. As the years go by, there is even more info at one's fingertips, via the world wide web. :)
It appears that Monarch cans were produced in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, not Algoma, WI, by this company:

It's my home state, so I wanted to get the history updated.

I noticed this sentence from the wikipedia link posted by dwesol:
wikipedia wrote:The registered trades names for Monarch and Jet Fan were last assigned to the Metal Ware Corporation, Inc., of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Metal Ware is the current manufacturer of Nesco brand kitchen appliances.
NESCO also manufactured jerrycans, although it's not mentioned in their story.

Thanks Roy,
Your link has a photo depicting the NESCO factory in my home town of Milwaukee. The NESCO electric "Roaster" is prominent around here. My childhood memories is that every family had a NESCO Roaster. To slow roast a holiday turkey. Or to cook and serve hot food to a crowd at family gatherings.

Just a bit of history nerd info. :P

It would make sense that NESCO had the sheet metal tooling to fabricate Jerry Cans. I don't know if they did that in Milwaukee, or Granite City, IL ?
