mystery fuel can usmc.
I was wondering if any further information has surficed regarding the mystery fuel can can seen in some photos of marine jeeps during ww2. I bought 4 of these cans from two different sellers on the same day. I was going to use them as stand in's for early war German North Africa cans. They even look desert color a little. Seems to be a can of word war II. I have my own theories, but who knows. Hope the attachment works
thanks

Is the opening circular or is it roughly a triangular looking oval? A photo of that will be definitive in telling who made the can and for whom.
Also, is the handle completely welded or is it just welded in the front? It’s hard to tell from your photo.

That is the original German design and later, NATO type. Don't know where yours came from though. Maybe USMC made them. US Metal Container Company in Oklahoma.

Re: mystery fuel can usmc.
Here's the link that covers this, no need to speculate.

USMC, the manufacturer, has nothing to do with the Marines. Marine cans are marked U.S.M.C. and have wartime dates on the bottom.
These unmarked "Expeditionary Cans" used by the Marines were made by CONCO. They made steel for fuel and galvanized for water.
If you have 4 and they work for you as the early style German cans that's all that matters. They are desirable as 'mystery cans" but much cheaper than war dated German cans.
Cheers,
Peter
