Aux. Fuel Cell Gerry Can.

Post by D.R.H. » Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:35 pm

I am working on the fuel system in my G-506 and needed an auxiliary fuel cell to run the engine and move the truck if needed. A friend gave this 5 liter can to me a few months ago but I didn't know what to do with it, until today. Here are some photos of what I did.

It really isn't anything special, I hope, so I felt comfortable with the conversion.

I drilled a 1/4 inch hole here and inserted a steel fuel line that is almost touching the bottom of the can inside and soldered it in place.

I used this petcock and fittings to build this assembly. The fuel pump on my truck has the same female fitting at the inlet. I can attach the same end there as what is shown in the photo and use a length of rubber hose to complete the feed to the pump.

It took about an hour to clean all of the brass fittings, assemble and solder.
The previous owner installed the civvy tank under the seat because he didn't have a correct fuel tank for the Chevy. I drained it today, filled the 5 liter can and it's not leaking.

Here is a video of the work.
