Water or fuel cans ID

What are these, water cans? What nation’s? I have a couple

That is a British can. The W|D is for War Department and the "Broad Arrow" is the cipher used for military equipment in Great Britain. Looks like a 1954 dated fuel can. Water cans have a different embossing indicating water.
