I've come across a 5 gallon can that has BLITZ marked on the side, below the X. Seller says no markings on the bottom.
I did a search here but I'm confused by what I'm finding. Some posts refer to BLITZ as though it's a type of can. Other posts refer to BLITZ as a brand.
What have I come across and is it WWII? Value in clean condition (painted red) with no leaks. It has a cam style lid with four tabs.
Any help is appreciated.

Blitz can mean anything
The company is defunct https://stateimpact.npr.org/oklahoma/20 ... -business/
No marking doesn't make sense. Requirements for the gauge steel and capacity of the can have been around for a long time

Re: Blitz cans: Brand or type?
During WWII, what we now call jerrycans, were sometimes referred to as "Blitz" cans. Here's an example:

Post-WWII, "Blitz" was a brand/trade name/mark of the US Metal Can Company.

Here's an example of such a can - marked "Blitz" on the sides, and appears to be nothing on the sides.

Screw-top, not cam lid.

Pretty confident that if it says "BlITZ" on the side then it's a commercial can, no military connection.
