About 25 years ago I picked up a Rudy 5 Gallon 1945 Can. Found it my friends garage as he was cleaning out for a move.
This can intrigued me as it had on the front a large Gold Crest Motor Oil label. As seen in the attached pictures, the label is mostly intact but fraying from age. The label notes on the bottom "Sold Only By Sears Roebuck and Co".
I assume since this Rudy can is 1945 dated, that it was likely sold off new in quantities by Rudy to Sears Roebuck to repackage as Gold Crest 20W Motor oil.
The inside and outside of the can is nearly perfect with no rust or dents.
Question for the Forum members here, has this Gold Crest 5 Gallon can been documented before or is this a new additions to the data base on the MVPA Gerry Can forum? If other Gold Crest 5 Gallon cans have been documented where they all of Rudy manufacture?

Gary,
That is a very nice looking can. I have not seen one before. There was on the Jerry Can Forum on Facebook some commercial stenciled examples. But I haven't seen a full label like that. Considering it's age and that a paper label was placed over the X embossing that label is in pretty good shape. I completely agree with your theory that the can essentially never saw military service before being sold off.
