Re: aluminium jerry can
That's a new one on me. I've not see the V before. Any markings on the bottom, or under the handles?

Re: aluminium jerry can
Hello
It is a French manufacture for the US Army at the end of 1944 beginning of 1945
They were also produced for the French Army after 1945
They are made of aluminum,
The maker is Vermorel "V" at the bottom of the side
At the end of 1944 France produced jerry cans for the allied armies, including this aluminum model
See on this site different products

Best regards

Re: aluminium jerry can
Leon, thank you very much for this interesting information! It`s the USA type 1!
So the farmer's story is true. He told me that his father served in the Wehrmacht and that this jerry can came from a unit that they totally destroyed in the war in the Adrenne.
So look this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/106th_Inf ... ed_States)
In the Ardennes-Alsace Campaign, the Germans attacked the 106th on 16 December 1944. The division's 422nd and 423rd Infantry Regiments were encircled and cut off by a junction of enemy forces in the vicinity of Schönberg. They regrouped for a counterattack, but were blocked by the enemy. The two regiments surrendered on 19 December. The Germans gained 6,000 prisoners in one of the largest mass surrenders in American military history. Nearly 50% of the division's strength was brushed aside[vague] in the first days of the Battle of the Bulge.
Thank you verry much tho help me find out this story!!!
