These should help...basically the US cans were spot-welded handles and the European were stick welded. The other differences can be seen in the type of closure hardware and of course the HOLE in the tab on the cap closure.

MVPA "ARMY MOTORS" back about 20 years ago had an excellent and detailed article on WWII German Gas Cans, I do not have the MVPA Index handy or I would give the number of the isue. It may still be availible to MVPA members. I seem to remember the original WWII tooling existed long after WWII.
I have a 1942 dated Wehrmacht can.

KRAFTSTOFF 20L
Feuergefahrrlich
1942,

and another,

TRIEBSTOFF
Feuergefahrlich.

The lower can is undatedand I believe is Dutch, it has a spring loaded bracket on front of the handle with several 1" x 2" removable tags with the class of fuel
This may be the same as the can in question.
Fred Potter,Adirondack Surplus imported a few hundred NOS and I have one left that I copied the printing for you.

Note the different language I posted on the so called "NATO" can. Why would this late can be ID'd as NATO"?
It is obvious that the can is not WWII.
Perhaps someone has some 90's dated SUPPLY LINES" that have Fred Potters Adirondac Surplus listing a description of these late cans. Mine is the WWII color.
Will Post pics this evening of the Post WWII Can.

This one is half spot welded, and I guess the stick welded side was a repair. Strange it managed to receive a NATO tag bracket. So it looks like I have a Conco can. Excellent, thanks Chuck!

This is where you mentioned NATO.

Hi Farrell,
Here's another tagged can to decipher. It is not a CONCO, but The description of the can I have does parallel yours. Note the spring loaded tag holder and the tags.
I like mine better.

I have only seen that type of TAG BRACKET on Swiss owned cans.
I cannot say that no other country used that bracket, but none that I know of.

BenDover's can was made post-WWII for Swiss Defence Forces.

It appears that right after the war, the Swiss used almost* whatever was available.
When the war ended, Europe was littered with millions of jerrycans that were no longer needed.

I have seen WWII dated British and German cans with these brackets that apparently the Swiss used after the war.
If a CONCO German style can was available, I assume they would have used it.

* I say almost, because I don't remember seeing any US screw-lid cans with this bracket.

I guess you have a plastic fuel can to share parallels of as well? Should be the same right?

I do have a nice clean 1943 dated CONCO USMC Can, the protective lining is still intact and it still has the original USMC paint. I am not an expert on USMC OVE but will take pics if there are any features of interest.
