Thanks for your reply, Luca. I wondered if it was factory.

Re: Picked Up A '41 Can on Saturday
My wife and I were poking around an Antique store in Crockett, CA yesterday and I spotted a kind of rusty OD can. I checked the inside and it wasn't too bad so I picked it and a 10" Ridgid pipe wrench up for $10.00. After a little clean up at home I found the the manufacturer's markings were all under the handles rather than on the bottom. It is marked N. S. I. The other markings look like ICC 5, 20 5-1/4 43. Here are some pictures.

Re: Picked Up A '41 Can on Saturday
This problem is a little bit off topic but I'm hoping that someone might have an idea for a source of gas resistant rubber material to make new gaskets for my USMC Blitz small cans from the 80s. I picked up the new looking one recently but I've had the Fuel & Tool can for 27 years. Both cans' gaskets are now split and leaking. Any suggestions?

You can buy a sheet of rubberized cork material that should work fine. I've used it for fuel gaskets. A good hardware store should have it.

Do a search on Amazon for Jerry can gaskets. Plenty of results.

Don since you are scrounging all the good stuff around the Bay Area, the least you can do is to bring these treasures to Camp Petaluma in April so we with less time on our hands will have a chance to double your investment.

Re: Picked Up A '41 Can on Saturday
I only saw your post now: very nice can, and the marking under the handles makes it a bit more interesting that the usual plain jane gas cans. However I am puzzled by the four unrolled tabs on the lid, with their chain attacment, typical of 1941 cans. Maybe it has been replaced, as it does not look stock to me.d42jeep wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2017 1:02 amMy wife and I were poking around an Antique store in Crockett, CA yesterday and I spotted a kind of rusty OD can. Thanks for the reminder, I missed the one in Petaluma. I plan to spend an afternoon there but it seems that all I do is look at all the cool vehicles and buy more tools and toolboxes.John Neuenburg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 9:14 pmDon since you are scrounging all the good stuff around the Bay Area, the least you can do is to bring these treasures to Camp Petaluma in April so we with less time on our hands will have a chance to double your investment.

Re: Picked Up A '41 Can on Saturday
Here is a spout I picked up last weekend to replace the one I sent to Luke. I think that these are kind of cool. It was on a red can at an estate sale and the woman didn't want to sell the spout separate. I said how much for the can with the spout and she quoted $5.00. I happily paid the $5.00 and left the stinky can behind. A little carb cleaner spray immediately took care of the bad gas smell.

That one does not look maker marked on top? I think there were two size spouts, small for cars and large (pictured) included with this cap originally. I use mine often and appreciate your kindness Don!d42jeep wrote:Here is a spout I picked up last weekend to replace the one I sent to Luke. I think that these are kind of cool. Thanks for the suggestion. I had trolled eBay with no success. I did a search for Blitz can gaskets on Amazon and found a seller selling gaskets specifically for these cans. They were a little pricey but the cans are useless with leaky gaskets.
Luke,
Glad you are finding the spout useful. This spout had no makers marks.
