Can you Identify this Water Can ???

Post by MPMB45 » Fri Apr 30, 2004 10:24 pm

I just pick this up from Ebay........The seller says it's marked on both side only - No date or Name.

I figure what the hell - Only paid $9.95 for it.

He said he thought the MC stood for Medical Corps ???

Is this a rare can ? My understanding is that if it was Military Surplus - it was suppose to be dated and have a manufacturer's name on it or the Military would not use it!

Skip,

I have'nt received it yet.......probably within the next week or so........Unless there is alot of paint on it - the seller says, he could not see anything other than whats on the sides!

I thought with all the "Can Guru's" on here I would of had a few more responses, I guess their expertise is in Fuel Cans Only!!!

Matt:

Could this be one of the proto-types that the Hells Angels carried on their bikes before they got the copyright on "Hells Angles" from the patent office?

You know, the "Unknown Sh*tdisturbers Motorcycle Club"?

Well, it's just a thought...

BTW...under the handle or on the bottom of the can...these are two good places to check. Also, a description of the ears on the lid and a pic of the front of the handle mount near the lid.

ALSO...the "X" on this can is not like any of the US, British or German styles....I suspect a post war copy from somewhere....

I believe it stands for the US Metal Can Co.

As soon as I get it I will let you all know if it's marked at all.....and the lid style ect .......

I had never seen one like this before!

The price was right -- should be here by the end of next week or so !

Thanks,

UPDATE:

Well, I finally received the can the other day.......have sanded it down and there was original O.D. (looks like WWII Color) under the white........but then again, somebody could of painted it years ago!

No markings what's so ever anywhere........But it's a perfect can....no dents, dings at at all....

The only thing is - they used fuel in it.

Thanks for the help guy's!!

Matt,

I've got one of these too, original OD paint and otherwise unmarked. I thought it might be an early postwar USMC can as I doubt the Medical Corps would've had enough pull to get their "own" water cans. Markings are raised correct? Very odd cans.

I found one of these at the Flea Market this morning (and paid the princely sum of $3.00 for it mainly because I was curious about what the heck it was). Mine has a raised "W" stamped under the handle. Anyone have a clue if this is wartime or postwar?
