Info from 1943 , I think the '44 information is the same but I will have to check later.
The sizes for the POM stripes should (according to paperwork) ' approximate 1" x 4" ' and the size of the font shown on the paperwork always looks comparable although no specification is given.

Personal and Unit items should be marked on 2 sides with stripes and Unit serial number and on one side with the other information as shown. Vehicles marked on right front bumper. Dark markings on a dark background should be highlighted with a lighter patch behind the stripes and vice versa. (Although not always done)

Unit Baggage and TBA was not marked if it was on the vehicle but if it was carried separately on the ship.

If someone would like dimensions from an original, I have since found a genuine "LIFE photo in England" can, minus the green triangle, you can see it on my topic here, almost bottom of page 1

Hi,
I have just "barn found" another can with these markings, but in 99,99% perfect conditions!
Surprisingly, this one and the other I have do not have the triangles!

Hi Fabrizio,
The green triangles represent that they were shipped empty and in a banded pack so all strapped together. They were not all marked in that way with the triangle, only 10% of the visible cans.

I can't put my finger on the source document at the moment.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here but have been reading stuff on here for years. I just refinished some gas cans that I had based on info found here. Thanks for the wealth of info.

Best Regards.

What is the letter height for the stencil? And, who, if anyone, makes the red "seals"?

Ron used to have the red octane tags for the cans, but I don’t currently see them on his website. You may want to check with him anyway.

I also have a page for understanding POM markings:
