BOYCO '42 Gas Can Info Needed

Post by Chuck Lutz » Tue Oct 07, 2003 9:05 pm

At Woodson Bridge there were a bunch of gas cans...several guys had a pile of 'em. On the morning constitutional, Bill H. and I found several nice ones and he picked up a BOYCO '42 for $10.00. Since I have a '45 Rheem, a 41 dwc German, a '42 Monarch Water and a '51 C.P & F. Water at the house I wasn't interested, but then when we got back to the camp, he mentioned he has like, 18 or so cans, si I got it off him so I have a set of Water & Gas for the '42 GPW......

Anyway, the BOYCO has not been wetsanded YET, but it has a 4 1/2" x 2" plate tacked on each side, below the "X" and above the bottom rim....

Is this a standard feature of BOYCO '42 cans or should I be looking for unit numbers or something on this plate? No stamping on it I can see, so if there is anything there, it is painted on...

Is it "factory" or a field modification?

I have several cans, W & G (just ask Bill ) and have seen several others. I have never seen a can modified as you said. I would venture to say it is a field mod.

Thanks Mike....

I'll have to get the emery paper out and go over that plate very carefully to check for unit markings. Or...could just be some sort of anti-chafing prevention... those two little envelopes you sent via the Hollinger Highway...just gotta find the stuff to put IN them.
